Texas DA slain in his home; had armed himself

Kaufman D.A. Mike McLellandKAUFMAN, Texas (AP) – Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland took no chances after one of his assistant prosecutors was assassinated two months ago. McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and took extra care when answering the door at his home.

“I’m ahead of everybody else because, basically, I’m a soldier,” the 23-year Army veteran boasted in an interview less than two weeks ago. SOURCE

Like many in Texas, and all across the USA, I too carry a gun, all the time, and I am very careful when answering the door. Believe it or not, I DO have enemies. Shocking isn’t it?

Be that as it may; I am almost 60 years old, I don’t have the physical strength, agility or reflexes I had a few years ago. It comes with age, and more than that, the *mileage* you have put on your body along the way.

I haven’t been able to find a source that lists the age of Mr. McLelland, and I do NOT say this to denigrate him in ANY way, but looking at his picture I see an older gentleman, one that I am sure was a great soldier and a hell of a man, back in his day, but we ALL slip a bit as we get older, we’re not as fast and our reactions tend to slow down, that’s just a fact.

Today I have seen several on-line comments on various Texas newspapers saying that McLelland should have armed himself. I guess the persons making those comments didn’t read the part about him being armed.

Some are saying, and I am guessing that their remarks are sheer sarcasm, and that they themselves are part of the anti-gun cabal, but they are saying that if Mike McLelland had a gun in both hands he would have been twice as able to defend himself and his wife.

People really ARE just that stupid.

According to this story McLelland WAS armed, and carrying everywhere he went, and was very careful about answering the door, but it appears that the door was kicked in and quite possibly, probably actually, he was taken by surprise … that CAN happen, it’s called an ambush, and regardless of how well you’re trained as a Law Officer or Soldier, if you’re not still in training on a regular basis, you become less attuned to the possibility OF such and you open yourself up to a surprise attack.

I am NOT saying that this is exactly what happened to McLelland, I am merely offering what I believe are distinct possibilities and educated guesses.

I too have my own personal suspicions about the shooter(s), but unlike some that have commented on the various MSM pages, I am not going to blame former President Bush nor am I going to blame President Obama.

The individuals blaming Bush and Obama seem to believe that this is the work of a drug cartel, a Mexican drug cartel, and they may be 100% correct, but the condition of our border with Mexico, and what many perceive as very lax enforcement, is NOT the reason McLelland, his wife and ADA Hasse were killed.

Could the shooter(s) have been individuals that have ties to Mexican drug cartels?

Sure, and I happen to believe that is a viable possibility and an area that must be looked at in an in-depth investigation, but you can’t just throw out the CARTEL word and drop it right there, all avenues have to be investigated.

Some have offered up comments in the MSM papers saying that this MUST be the work of the Aryan Brotherhood (AB), and it may have been, but again, none of us knows and even if we have strong hunches, at this time no one can be looked at and called anything other than a *suspect*, or a *person of interest*.

Several commenters on MSM sites have already connected this double murder with that of ADA Hasse and Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements.

Since Clements was reportedly killed by Evan Ebel, a recently paroled convict that is said to have strong ties to the AB, rumors and speculation are running rampant.

I will be watching closely and will post any NEW and FACTUAL information that I get but I am not going to get involved in a guessing game. It’s far too easy to be proven wrong if you’re just guessing.
